Ian Bickley, President of Coach International, said, "We are especially excited about the opening of this important Hong Kong flagship, which will be the first company-operated store in the region and is expected to become one of the highest volume Coach stores in the world. Hong Kong is a unique global market, with a strong domestic consumer base, while also serving as a destination for Asian tourists including the tens of millions of Mainland Chinese tourists who travel there in growing numbers each year. This store will significantly enhance the brand and is consistent with our strategy of raising awareness and aggressively growing market share with the Chinese luxury consumer."
"We intend to grow our domestic store base in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China from a total of about 25 locations today to about 80 over the next five years. The region has the potential to quickly become the third major market for Coach, following North America and Japan. Further, the timing of this opening is ideal, as our business here is remarkably strong and reflects accelerated consumer demand for our product," continued Mr. Bickley.
The 9,400 square foot store (873 square meters) has been designed by Reed Krakoff, President and Executive Creative Director of Coach, with the Coach Architecture Group and features a unique and exciting new design created exclusively for this flagship. It also features an impressive four-story, 7,100 square foot (660 square meter) glass and stainless steel back-lit Signature facade, as well as the Coach Horse and Carriage logo, highlighting the brand's craftsmanship and heritage.
The store's interior projects an intimate, residential, New York City attitude, the latest evolution of Coach's design and positioning. Echoing our new Legacy concept store - which debuted on Bleecker Street in New York City last fall - it showcases a chic lifestyle brand to resonate with the fashion-forward Hong Kong consumer as well as visitors from Asia and Mainland China. Design details include white Italian Carrera marble floors with insets of black cabochon and areas of solid walnut herringbone planks. The high-gloss white painted ceiling was completed with decorative crown molding. The fixtures along the perimeter of the shop are a mix of custom lacquer and antique mirror with oxidized nickel silver accents, and Coach custom-designed furniture is used throughout the store.
The store showcases the world of Coach products and a range of limited edition pieces, including the regional debut of Coach Fragrance. To commemorate the opening, Mr. Krakoff has also created a series of 50 exotic, individually-numbered bags available exclusively at the store. The opening will be heralded by a high impact, integrated, marketing and communications program, including print, outdoor, direct mail and packaging, among many other media. It will feature a sophisticated advertising campaign custom tailored for international markets. A special website, MYNYCOACH.COM, was also developed as part of the overarching concept for the launch.
